Students gathered for a good cause Friday as part of Volunteer UCF’s Art’s and Recreation week.
Participants filled Easter eggs with candy for Santiago & Friends Center for Autism’s Autism-Friendly Easter Egg Hunt.
The event took place in the Neptune Multipurpose Room and had more than 20 students in attendance.
The importance of these events is to raise awareness on different issues in a fun and creative atmosphere, so that students can better understand how they can directly impact certain causes within the community, said Alexandra Peters, a senior human communications major and VUCF committee member.
“I’m here for Phi Eta Sigma Honors Society and I’m also here because the cause really resonates with me,” junior elementary education major Itzel Garduno said. “One of my cousins is autistic so I definitely thought this was cool.”
In addition to filling plastic eggs with candy, students also colored Easter cards to be handed out to sick children who are currently staying in the hospital.
“I’m a member of Omega Phi Alpha, which is a national service sorority,” senior interdisciplinary studies major, Danielle Rothenberg, said. “I’m here because we’re required to do service hours throughout the semester. I’m actually done with my service hours, but I just liked the cause.”
